An idea and a computer

When I started my business, I realized that sometimes all it takes is a computer and an idea. It’s easy to find excuses—out of fear—for why you need more to get your business started. More money, more equipment, and even more time are all excuses. At some point it can not be about what you do not have or lack. Getting started is the key. Taking the first step is the key.

What do you have right now in your possession that can be used to start your business? The biggest barrier to your success is actually doing the work and getting started. How do you start a business with limited resources? Start with the basics:

Use your phone — Reach out to your connections, your network and cold call businesses. Who do you know that would be interested in your product and/or service.
Use your feet/transportation —- Survey your neighborhood. What businesses are around? Can they benefit from your business idea? Go to coffee houses and places where you can meet people and network.
Use social media — Social media should be intentional for entrepreneurs. Why are people in your networks? Who from your network can become a customer or refer you to a customer. Are you using it to grow your business?
Use your computer (if you have one) — This is the center of your business. You need to be organized. There is a lot of free software that will help you manage your finances and your business pipeline.
Use the internet — There are several websites that allow you to bid on work.

Modern technology levels the playing field for entrepreneurs. All you really need is a phone and your feet to get started.
